Make the Outdoors Fabulous for Fall
There is something so special about decorating your porch (if you have one) and outdoor space for the fall season, bringing more warmth and color to a time of year that is traditionally a bit cold and gloomy in many places. It’s especially fun to do in the lead up to Halloween.
If you want to get into the fall spirit by decorating your outdoor space, here are a few fall decor ideas to get you started:
Pumpkins and Corn on the Porch
Okay, so this is perhaps not very original, but if you’re a traditional kind of gal, you really cannot go wrong by decorating your porch with lots of plump pumpkins and silky corn creations which symbolize the abundance of the fall season with its harvest and which add warm, rich natural colors to the space.
If you want to make this kind of traditional porch decor a bit more interesting, there is no reason why you could not decorate your pumpkins and squashes with paint and glitter; white is classy and bold colors a bit more unique.
Create Your Own Sign
Before Halloween comes around, why not put your artistic skills to the test by making your very own Halloween haul sign to point the way to the candy or lead the neighborhood kids to some fun scares around your property? You can find a really good tutorial for this here and it will cheer up your porch to no end. It could be a fun activity to try out with the kids too.
Invest in Some New Patio Furniture
If you have a patio area in your backyard, now is the perfect time to do it up because fall is often the best time to buy patio furniture due to it being on sale once the busy summer season is over. Choose natural materials such as wicker to fit in with the fall harvest theme and it will look perfect.
Consider a Fire Pit
If you’re living in an area where the temperature drops as soon as fall is in full swing, you will absolutely love having your own fire pit in the garden, which will enable you to spend far more time in the garden taking in the delicious scents of fallen leaves, rain and cool air, telling spooky stories and roasting chestnuts. It’s great for Halloween in particular.
Make a Wreath
Want to beautify your front door this fall? You don’t have to wait until Christmas to hang a wreath. Go out on a fun nature walk with the family and gather up as many fallen twigs, pine cones, berries, leaves and moss that you can find and bring them together in an interesting circular design. Add a few ribbons and trinkets and everyone who visits will receive a warm fall welcome at your door.
Lots of Lanterns
Whether you make your own fall lanterns or you buy a few hurricane lamps, there is nothing better than lighting a few candles on your porch during the dark fall evenings. Not only will it light up your porch and make it look pretty, but it’s a much more welcoming sight to come home to than a harsh security light. Just make sure that you keep an eye on the candles and snuff them out in the evening before you retire so that you keep your home and your family safe.
Blankets and Pillows
Whether you have a porch or a covered patio, fall is the perfect time to throw down lots of warm blankets and pillows that you can all sit on/under and stay warm and cozy while you’re outside. Choose reds, browns, oranges, and yellows so that your benches and chairs fit the fall theme and set the right tone for outdoor relaxation whatever the weather.
Spooky Stuff
As Halloween approaches, you’re probably going to want to add some Fall decor to your porch. Carve your favorite faces into your pumpkins, hang a fall welcome sign, stick on some glow in the dark stars and darken the atmosphere for the best decor of the season.
