Flower Power: Using Plants In Your Wedding Decor wooden table with open drawer of flowers at a wedding reception hampersandhiccups

Can you imagine a wedding without flowers? Probably not! Weddings and flowers go together like cheese and crackers, or coffee and cream. They just work so well together! This article contains many ideas for flower wedding decor.

Traditionally, flowers have stolen the show as the bride’s bouquet. More often than not, the bridesmaids will carry very similar, if not slightly smaller bouquets. These flowers are carried throughout the whole of the ceremony and usually top-off the bride’s brilliant outfit. After the ceremony, usually in the middle of the reception, she will throw her bouquet to see who catches. Superstition states that whoever catches the thrown bouquet will be the next to get married.

There are a lot more really creative things you could do with them. In fact, you might even like the idea of using some plants, such as pot plants, in your wedding alongside colorful flowers as well.

So, are you interested in learning about a few more creative ways you can bring in more flowers and plants into your big day? Read on! Here are some of my favorite ways you can put flowers and plants to good use in your wedding.

Table Centerpiece

You might want to speak to your florist about this and see if they can create some beautiful floral centerpieces for you. Most will offer this as a service. Don’t worry if your florist won’t do this for you, though. It can be very easy to make your own centerpiece with pretty flowers. In fact, many florists offer flower arranging courses, so you might want to take one of these so that you understand the basics of arranging floral displays. That will then make it easier for you to create some gorgeous centerpieces.

Of course, you can also use small pot plants as your table centerpieces as well. Ideally, it’s usually best to stick to either plants or flowers – trying to use both in the middle of a table could end up looking quite busy and messy. If you do stick to plants, you’ll be able to make some great attention-catching centerpieces out of many different species, including prickly cacti!

Wedding Favors

If you haven’t thought of something to offer as a favor yet, why not think about plants? Small pot plants will be a really unique favor as I’m sure that not many of your wedding guests will have ever been given one before at a previous wedding they’ve attended!

Small succulents are easy to look after and you can buy very small ones that look super cute. I’m sure your guests will be very happy to receive them. Other great pot plants that you might want to give include cacti and aloe vera plants. You can also give flowers as well if you prefer. In fact, your florist might be able to make some very small bouquets that your guests can take home with them.

One other cool way to give plants as a favor is to gift some bulbs. You can buy bulbs from most garden stores, or you can also buy them online in bulk. Your guests will then be able to take them home with them to plant in their gardens. They will then always have some plants in their gardens that will remind them of your big day!

Table Numbers

As well as using plants and flowers on your reception tables as centerpieces, you might also want to use them to create your table numbers. That way, everyone can easily see the numbers of the tables and there won’t be any confusion figuring out where everyone needs to sit. These can be as decorative and big as you want them to be. For instance, if you just want to have some discreet table numbers, you could simply place a pot plant on each table with a small card in stating the table number. If you want them to be bigger than you can of course add as many plants and flowers to the display as you like.

Escort Cards

One other really neat way to use more flowers and plants in your wedding is to use them with your escort cards. Escort cards are often used in place of a seating map for the reception. Some people like to create a map of all the tables at the reception with the guests mapped out on each table. This way, everyone knows where they need to sit. Lots of couples spend a long time planning out the seating map so that they can seat all of their guests next to other people who they already know or next to someone who they will get on really well with. This makes the reception a lot more social!

If you are a bit more relaxed when it comes to the reception, then you might prefer to set up some escort cards. These are cards with couples’ and individuals’ names on them and the table number on which they need to sit. These are a little more relaxed than a seating plan as you aren’t telling each guest the exact seat in which they need to sit – once they get to their table, they can sit wherever they want to. If you want to use plants to decorate your escort cards, you could put each card into a small pot plant. Simply tape the card onto a small cocktail stick and stick that into the soil. The guests can then take their individual plants with them to the table, and they can even take them home with them if they want to.

Decor Features

They can be used in the ceremony and for the reception. One great way to add some more flowers to your decor is to place them at the end of pews or aisles. You can simply make some cute bouquets and attach these to the end of the pew or aisles in the church. Some couples also like to buy flower arches. They can then stand under one while they are saying their vows, or they could walk under a few as they go down the aisles. You might even want to add some flowers to low-hanging light fixtures above tables to create some colorful and natural chandeliers.

Cake Decorations

It’s now possible to buy edible flowers from most specialist food stores, so you might want to add a few of these onto the cake’s icing. Some people decide to decorate their wedding cake by surrounding it with flowers that might not necessarily be edible. It’s perfectly safe to do this, just make sure that you remember to remove them before you cut into it!

As you can see then, there are so many cool, unique, and interesting ways to use more flowers and plants into your wedding. Whether you want to incorporate them into your ceremony or reception, I’m sure you’ll find a great use for them and that they will really brighten up your day. If you are ever in any doubt over how to use flowers and plants, be sure to speak to a local florist for some great tips.
