One of the most difficult tasks that a person can attempt to do is vacuum their stairs. The staircase is not shaped in a way that makes it easy for a traditional vacuum to be used.
Whether the staircase is straight, angled, or even if it is circular, you're still going to run into the same problems.
Stairs are indicative of the most complex places where a person can use a vacuum.
Of course, there are different types of vacuums that you can use, but that doesn't mean that it's any easier. Here are the main reasons why it is very difficult to vacuum your stairs.

The Angle Of The Staircase
One of the reasons that vacuuming your staircase is going to be so difficult is because of the angle. It is not designed to be easy to clean.
In fact, even if you had a vacuum that was not an upright, perhaps a canister vacuum with a hose that you could extend, you are still having to go up, or down, at a very steep angle.
The Size Of The Steps
Another reason that you may have difficulty vacuuming your stairs is the size of the steps.
If you think about it, you could probably clean the same amount of carpet in about five minutes if you could simply run the vacuum back and forth over that surface.
Unfortunately, especially if you have a very long staircase, you have multiple steps, each of which will need to be vacuumed individually.
This does not even count the vertical aspect of the stairs which also need to be cleaned from time to time.
Upright Vacuums
If you have a standard upright vacuum, this is something that you will have to lift up each and every time you vacuum one step of the staircase.
They are also extremely wide, and also long, making it difficult to hold them in place. It is also impossible to vacuum the steps from the top down.
That is because the brushes are bristles that rotate underneath the vacuum will not be in the right position.
The Attachment Is Too Small
One of the easier ways to vacuum your steps is to have a vacuum that has an extendable wand attachment.
You can attach different heads to the end of the hose, but even with that, it is still a problematic situation.
There are some modern vacuums that will have attachment with electric capabilities, causing the bristles on the attachment to rotate.
This will enable you to clean your stairs much more easily and thoroughly, but it doesn't make it any easier to get those very narrow individual spaces.
Your Power Cord Is Too Short
Another problem is having a power cord that is too short. In some cases, it may only allow you to go up half the stairs before you run out of cord.
This is a common occurrence, prompting many people to invest in an extension cord that will allow them to go all the way up or down.
Is There An Easy Way To Clean The Steps On Your Staircase?
There is only one way to clean your stairs that is remotely easy. First of all, you cannot use an upright vacuum.
Unless it has an attachment that can extend several feet, it makes it almost impossible to bring the vacuum with you as you are moving up the stairs.
Second, you will want to start from the bottom, and work your way up. If you don't do this, it's virtually impossible to position the vacuum properly, keeping it in balance, on the narrow steps.
Finally, using a canister vacuum is likely the best choice as they tend to have very long hoses on which you can put extensions.
The extension that you use should be one that has electrically powered bristles that can provide a thorough cleaning.
Until they come up with an invention for cleaning stairs, this is always going to be a very difficult task.
By using these simple strategies of using a canister vacuum, with the long enough cord, and the hose with an extension, it will make the job much easier.
You must always start from the bottom, and by using all of these strategies together, you can clean your stairs very quickly.
